Members of the Flintridge CA Kiwanis club have organized an historic motorcycle ride to a Kiwanis Club meeting in each of the 50 states of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii - the KURE2013 ride, Kiwanis Unity Ride to Eliminate. This ride is anticipated to exceed 12,000 miles and to publicize an issue that Kiwanis International has partnered with UNICEF to support – the Elimination of Tetanus throughout the world. The Kiwanis Club of La Canada has affectionately named the rider-in-chief, Bob Burlison, The Eliminator! The ride leaves from La Canada, California, on Memorial Day, 2013, with an anticipated finish at the same location on Labor Day, 2013. These Kiwanis members also hope the ride will qualify as the longest “all in one country” motorcycle ride – a Guinness Book World Record, an achievement that would be a permanent reminder of the elimination of MNT (Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus) worldwide.
While Bob’s arrival in our district has been long anticipated, final specific arrangements have just been determined. The Pot Luck Picnic will be held in Dorado Greens Park, 6700 W Dorado Drive, Littleton (my back yard)* starting at3:00 PM Sunday afternoon, June 2. (*see directions below). Bring yourself, friends, and a dish to share for 6 people, and a chair so you can sit – we don’t have enough chairs for everyone. We will provide drinks and burgers. Bob Burlison will be there with his new, big BMW motorcycle, with stories about his current record-breaking trip.
I’d appreciate a guesstimate by Saturday, June 1 for how many people might come from each club. Just drop me an email at KinzerGR@aol.com or call me at 303-347-2753.
